"Be sure to send us a picture!"
Those were the last words my RE said to me after the most positive feel-good doctor appointment I ever had. It was the 7 week appointment when we confirmed a heart beat. It was amazing. And it was amazing to hear my RE say those words to me, finally, after all those times I had begrudgingly walked by the cork board of baby announcements in disgust. But finally one day soon it would be my turn to send in my announcement.
The week of Christmas I had sent our Bradley announcement slash Christmas card to our RE. Never expecting to hear anything in return you could imagine my surprise a few weeks later when I had an envelope in the mailbox with my RE's return address on it. I quickly opened it up and there it was...
A hand written note.
(I thought those were extinct along with dinosaurs and dial up internet.)
I couldn't believe it. It was so sweet. I couldn't believe how someone as busy and dedicated as her actually had time to sit down and hand write a note. Plus, it wasn't just a generic hand written note saying happy holidays. It was a personalized hand written note that included the sentence, "Thank you for sending me the beautiful picture of Bradley Carl."
It was the first of many:
-It was the first thank you letter I have ever received that was a letter thanking me for sending a letter.
-It was the first time I had ever seen a doctors hand writing on anything but a prescription pad.
-Most importantly, it was the first time I had ever received a letter from the woman who got me pregnant.
Wow, something so retro (a hand written note) coupled with something so modern (the idea that a woman got another woman pregnant) is pretty fucking fantastic if you ask me. (Sorry for that, but no other word would do in this situation.) I love my RE!
