12 Weeks!

Safe to let the cat out of the bag! (Well, more out I guess since most of our friends and family already new)
.
12 weeks. What an appointment! First off we had the ultrasound. Our appointment was at 9:30am so I woke up around 7:30-8ish and just laid around till about 9. At that point I got dressed and drank a quick glass of apple juice and I was out the door. Well, let me tell you how much Cupcake loves apple juice!! It was hilarious to see this little tiny figure of a human jumping, doing flips, waving, kicking and bouncing around in there. I definitely suggest to sugar up before a 12 week ultrasound to get the best looking video there is. The downside, our pictures aren't that terrific cus the little gummy bear was so photogenic that it just wouldn't stop moving around for different poses. Oh well, it was amazing to see all the movement. It was also amazing to see it move so much, yet not be able to feel a thing. That is weird! Also, we heard the heartbeat. So incredible at 152bpm.
.
Secondly, before my appointment with the actual doctor the nurses had to do a finger prick to get blood samples for our 12 week test we opted to do. It is a test that will tell us the chances of down syndrome or any other trisomey. So there I was standing in the back lab part where all the pee goes for when they ask you to leave a sample. Gross. Nurse #1 pricks me, I bleed enough for one sample (they need 5) and then I must have stopped bleeding. Well she continues to hurt me by squeezing the crap out of my finger. (In my mind it felt like she was applying direct pressure which is what you do to STOP bleeding. No wonder I didn't bleed anymore.) So then she went to prick me again. New finger, same deal. Finally she went to prick me a third time...SAME DEAL...each time squeezing harder and harder. She calls nurse #2. Nurse #2 come and pricks me a forth time. Finally the blood starts coming out, when I start getting light headed. All the signs I was about to pass out: Light headed, seeing spots, ears ringing, sweating. She grabs me a chair and has nurse #3 run to get me crackers and a juice. (no lady, I've had enough juice today) Anyway, as I'm sitting there with my head between my knees nurse #2 is still squeezing my finger to get the blood. Mission accomplished, drama included!
.
Moral of the story...thank goodness for nurse #2 because if it weren't for her I probably would have had nurse #1 tell me to jump around or something when I told her I was light headed. Fingers crossed for this test!

Bad Blogger: I've been in Time Out

My deepest apologies. I have been such a bad blogger...I put myself in time out. For the record, even though I have not been posting, I have been reading and keeping in touch with all of you. Promise!
.
As I'm coming closer to my 12 week apt/ultrasound (Monday) I find myself thinking about two things. 1) I'm praying desperately that you still see little Cupcake's heart beating and 2) How many crazy pregnancy/motherhood things I've already learned in 12 weeks. Here are just a few of those crazy things:
- I've learned that it is totally possible to be nauseous and hungry for something all at the same time
-I've learned that these 2 things should be totally acceptable, 1)publicly breastfeeding your baby during motherhood and 2)publicly stopping and wiping your crotch with the inside of your underwear to soak up the out of control cervical mucus while pregnant.
-I've learned every "Daddy Tip" in pregnancy books are geared for dead-beat dads. Ex, "If you go out of town make sure you call your wife at least once a day to let her know you are thinking about her." WHAT? Are you kidding? Shouldn't ANY husband do that anyway?
-I've learned if people know your pregnant, they want to touch your belly right away. "Oh sorry that was just my fat roll, and yes your right, I don't have my pants buttoned up top. I'm glad you felt that."
-I've learned that it is impossible to eat a meal, and stay awake after it.
-Finally, I've learned that sobriety isn't as bad as I'd thought it would be! haha :)
.
Cheers!

"I don't get it?"

"I don't get it?!" That is the questions that will make both hubs and I twinge for months to come.
.
This weekend was great. Easter weekend filled with family, food, and baby news! First stop Friday night was my MIL (Mother-in-law's) house where we were going to tell her we were pregnant for the first time. We were so excited!! Everything was going so well....then, the questions started.
.
My MIL was one of "those" women to accidentally got pregnant with TWINS. Therefore, she self-admittingly knows NOTHING about ttc or the whole baby making process for that matter. So as we began our story we started from the beginning, pcos. Explained all about that. After a ba-ZILLION questions we got into our treatment. We went through the whole process and every step we had to take. Well we got up to the insemination day and all hell broke lose.
.
Mind you this is a woman that has had two sons, has a husband, and also works in the medical field. As I explained how hubs and I went early in the morning to the clinic for hubs to put his "sample" in a cup, then we would come back and pick it up.
.
"Wait" she says, "I don't get it."
Me: "Huh?"
Hubs: (Horrified look on face)
Me: "He went back into the clinic and put his sample in a cup."
MIL: "I don't get it, how did it get in a cup."
Hubs: (Even more of a horrified look on face)
Me: " He HIMSELF put it in the cup"
MIL: "What?"
Me: (About to just shout out "He freakin jacked-off lady!")
Hubs: (Literally about to die of humiliation, secretly wondering "Does she need to see my form or something?")
MIL: "Oh....well was there some kind of material for you to use?"
Me: (Mouth dropped open, looking for hubs to take over)
Hubs: "Yes mom, there was magazines and movies from the 1980's"
Silence for a bit
.
Wow, still unbelievable how that particular conversation took place. I can't make this stuff up. You just gotta laugh.
.
The rest of the weekend went great and all family members have heart the big news. I'm so lucky to have such supportive family who is truly happy for us.
.
And we can all sleep better knowing that MIL knows how her son impregnated her daughter-in-law using pornographic material.

8w1d and New Bras

Well here I am 8 weeks along and I couldn't feel shittier, hence my absence from blogging. Today has been a good day, so it's a good day to catch up on all that's been going on with me and Cupcake.
.
First off. I need new bras already. I don't even need them so much for what you'd think I would need them for, growing breasts, in my case though it seems more like growing nipples. Yes, yes, as humiliating as that sounds, I need to get new bras to fit my nipples. (the things they never tell you)
.
Second, the headaches and nausea and fatigue have only sustained. To add to that gamut of issues this week I added a severe sinus cold with sore through, clogged nose, and the worst head pressure ever. Lovely.
.
On a positive note we met with our Ob yesterday for my first work up. It was so fun because the nurse greeted us with a huge bag of goodies consisting of an interactive binder for pregnancy and a place for me to take notes, info on food and medicines, pamphlets on prenatal testing, and a welcome into the Obstetrics side of things. All so fun. We talked to our Dr. a little about the hospital we'll be delivering at and all it has to offer as far as tours and classes and lactation consultants and all. Also I had a lovely pap done. When she did the part where she tries to feel your ovaries she said "You definitely feel pregnant." I have no idea what that meant but it made me feel good none-the-less.
.
Next appt. is in 4 weeks, and every 4 weeks after that. I will get another ultrasound at my next appt. Very excited for that!
.
This weekend is Easter weekend and we're going to be traveling to my in-laws. They have not known at all about any of our struggles or the fact that we were even ttc. We are very excited to tell them they have another little grand baby on the way. We will also be seeing my side of the family on Sunday where I think we will share the news as well.
.
I know it's still jumping the gun by about 4 weeks but we just can't keep it in any more. I asked the Dr. what my chances of miscarrying are now that I am 8 weeks along. She asked if we were able to see the heart beat on my last ultrasounds. We said yes. She said then that is a really good sign and the chances of miscarry are low. That made us feel good.
.
Happy Easter to all!! Eat lots of chocolate (I hear it's good for baby making)!! :-)
